If you are a truck enthusiast who also wants to do your part to help the environment, the new Ford F-150 Electric Lightning is the perfect vehicle for you. The Electric Lightning is an electric full-size pickup that is a whisper-silent electric vehicle that still brings with it the ruggedness you come to expect from an F-150. However, many are worried about how off-road capable the Lightning will actually be. Can an electric car actually tackle sand dunes, rugged trails, and rocky ravines? How off-road capable is Ford’s new F-150 Electric Lightning?

The Lightning Was Built for Off-Road Driving

Ford designed the Lightning knowing that the average driver would want to take their truck off-roading. Therefore, they took a number of precautions to make sure the truck was ready for the rigors of any road.

Independent Rear Suspension

The Ford Lightning is the only F-150 to feature independent rear suspension, giving you unprecedented control when handling the vehicle. This allows you to tackle steep dunes and tight turns with ease.

Lower Center of Gravity

The truck’s batteries are located in the center of the vehicle, nestled between the ladder frame’s rails and the front motor. As a result, the Lightning has a lower center of gravity, which improves how the truck handles and its ability to respond to even the subtlest movements.

Sport Mode

If the road gets rocky, switch to Sport mode! Sport mode gives the truck more responsive steering and acceleration, allowing you to push yourself and the F-150 Lightning to the limit.

Waterproof Battery Casing

If you are an off-road enthusiast, you will have to tackle obstacles such as rivers and creeks. That can be a problem when you have a massive battery in your truck, as the battery can get wet and short circuit. Luckily, the F-150’s battery is in a waterproof casing that is protected from all external damage.

Solid Ground Clearance

While the Lightning has less ground clearance than the standard F-150, there is still eight to nine inches of clearance, which is more than enough to go off-roading.

Off-Road Mode

If you are on a particularly troublesome trail, switch to Off-Road mode to increase the truck’s torque and truly let loose. Off-Road mode allows you to safely speed through sand, dirt, dunes, and more!

Cameras Provide a 360-Degree View

The Lightning is equipped with numerous cameras that give you an amazing 360-degree view of the road around you. That means that no off-roading obstacle can sneak up on you and damage your beautiful new truck.
